Hospice ropes local people in to jaw-dropping challenge

St. Joseph’s Hospice is on the lookout for anyone who would like to take on a thrilling challenge in the heart of Liverpool this summer.

On Saturday 10th August, a team of hospice supporters will abseil a whopping 500ft down the great west door of Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral to raise valuable funds for the hospice.

Last year, husband and wife team Kevin and Rachel McGrory, from Wigan, took on the challenge and raised over £700 in memory of Kevin’s Nan who was cared for by nurses at the hospice.

Rachel McGrory, said: “We were really excited to take part in the abseil, particularly as the hospice took such good care of Kevin’s nan. It was pretty scary initially taking the leap at the top of the tower but I just focussed on the amazing views, the people cheering us on at the bottom - including our families, and the reason we were doing it.”

Julie McAdam, fundraiser at St. Joseph’s Hospice, said: “Every year this event attracts a small and very dedicated team of fundraisers, like Rachel and Kevin, who are passionate about supporting the hospice and we always have a really good time. It really is an amazing experience not to mention an incredible view of the Liverpool skyline on a summer’s afternoon.”

Places for the Liverpool Cathedral Abseil are very limited so early booking is advised. Registration costs £40 and the minimum sponsorship required is £150.
