Income generation lead appointed at St. Joseph’s Hospice

St. Joseph's Hospice (Jospice) has appointed Penny Hamer as Director of Income Generation, following the departure of Pat Murphy, who has retired after 40 years service to the hospice.

Penny (46) has twenty years experience in the charity sector, including seven years managing the Co-operative Foundation’s charitable trust. She was also credited as being the most successful Regional Corporate Partnerships Manager for the British Heart Foundation, before combining her retail and charity experience as Northern Development Manager for the Retail Trust.

Penny joined the team at St. Joseph’s Hospice in May and reports directly to new Chief Executive Mike Parr. She heads up the hospice’s fundraising and retail teams, volunteer services and its nine charity shops, which all generate income to provide specialist end of life nursing care to patients at the oldest and largest hospice on Merseyside.

She said: “Generating funds is vital for the hospice to grow and expand so that we can evolve our services and provide a wider range of support for patients in need of quality end of life care as well as for their families and loved ones.

“I have experienced hospice care myself when my brother sadly passed away following a battle with cancer and so I know first hand just how special and important hospice care is to families as well as to patients.

“I am delighted to join the team at St. Joseph’s Hospice at what is a very exciting time as we work towards developing a hospice for the future. It’s quite simple, the more we can raise, the more help and care we can provide. That is a challenge I am very excited to be a part of and I’m looking forward to really shaping the organisation for years to come.”

Mike Parr, Chief Executive of St. Joseph’s Hospice, said: “As a charity, we want to be able to support as many people living with life-limiting conditions as possible and to offer them a wide range of specialist care and support services.

“Penny brings with her a wealth of experience and we are all looking forward to working with her on developing this very special charity.”
