Lord Mayor of Liverpool visits patients at St. Joseph's Hospice

Staff and patients at St. Joseph’s Hospice (Jospice) were honoured to meet The Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Cllr Tony Concepcion, and The Lady Mayoress, Ann Concepcion, when they paid a special visit to the hospice today (Tuesday 8th March).

As one of the oldest hospices in the UK, St. Joseph’s Hospice was awarded the Freedom of the City of Liverpool in March 2013 by the Lord Mayor of Liverpool at the time, Cllr Sharon Sullivan, at Liverpool Town Hall.

The current Lord Mayor and Mayoress were greeted on arrival at St. Joseph’s Hospice by Mike Parr, Chief Executive, and Marie Caddick, Trustee (pictured above).

Following a tour of the hospice to meet staff, patients and families, the Lord Mayor and Mayoress travelled to Crosby to visit one of the charity’s nine shops and the team of volunteers who run it.

The Lord Mayor, Cllr Tony Concepcion, said: “I was delighted to visit St. Joseph’s Hospice today to meet the dedicated team of nurses and healthcare assistants who care for so many people from Liverpool living with a terminal condition. The hospice is set in a stunning woodland setting in Thornton and provides patients and their families with high-quality, specialist end-of-life care and support.”

The Lady Mayoress, Ann Concepcion, added: “I am a big supporter of charity shops and recycling. I even bought several jackets for this Mayoral year from charity shops and so I particularly enjoyed visiting the team of volunteers and the manager at the Jospice charity shop in Crosby. They work really hard to generate income for the hospice so that it can continue to provide such wonderful care to patients and families.”

Mike Parr, Chief Executive of St Joseph’s Hospice, said: “We were very honoured that the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Liverpool came to visit us at St. Joseph’s Hospice today. It was a real privilege to show them around and introduce them to some of our patients on our inpatient units who were also delighted to meet them.”
