St Joseph's Hospice opened at Thornton in March 1974. During this time we have cared for thousands of people and their families.
We provide palliative and end of life care for patients with life limiting conditions as well as offering support for their families and carers. For all our patients we aim to provide a safe, welcoming place within a modern, professional clinical environment, allowing time and space for people with demanding and complex needs to be cared for at a crucial time of their life.
Our care is nurse-led and our nurses and care assistants develop specialised skills through training and experience. Our service is supported by local G.Ps. who have a special interest in palliative care, and our patients also receive bereavement support from our Family Support Officer. Our clinical team works closely with our catering, laundry and domestic staff ensuring that the patients and their families needs are central to all we do.
